But what if all positive people leave a team, and it only attracts more toxicity and bad performers? That might actually be a good development (albeit hardly an ideal one):

  • Good performers have found work elsewhere. They don’t have to suffer with this team any more.
  • The team doesn’t deliver at all, with toxic people no longer being hand-carried by those who perform.
  • This either draws enough attention to get someone to take charge and resolve the problem, or,
  • The project goes under, and no-one finds out why;
  • The work the team does is not well understood, unimportant, and not visible enough, and the team continues its existence as a cesspool of toxicity everyone outside of it avoids.
